Marco Giannoni was born in Tarquinia, Italy, on March 10, 1977. Giannoni studied classical guitar with Sergio Saladino and Massimiliano Marasco, and harmony and composition with Angelo Bruzzese. He passed his exams at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome and the Conservatory “A. Casella” in L’Aquila, Italy. During this time he pursued his interest in a wide variety of other stringed instruments, including the ‘ud (Arabic lute), concert zither, mandolin, banjo, and electric bass guitar. Since 1989 Giannoni has been active in the creation of rock, jazz, and blues music, but now dedicates himself primarily to classical and ethnic music, conducting careful research into the sounds and musical culture of the Mediterranean. He also composes musical themes for national radio broadcasts. He regularly collaborates with the poet and painter Otello Amantini, for whom he has scored music for some writings and composed the scene-music for the stage production of “Correvo: tra musica, danza, e poesia” (“Correvo: Between Music, Dance, and Poetry”). Since 1996 he has been invited three consecutive times to the “Accendi un Sorriso” Festival, from which all proceeds are donated to charities. In the summer of 2001 Giannoni was invited to perform at the concluding performance of the “Cocciales” Competition in Tarquinia, at which he played his own compositions for classical guitar, accompanying the writer Luigi de Pascalis’ recitation of the poetry of Vincenzo Cardarelli. Shortly afterwards he was summoned to perform, together with other musicians, at the concert celebrating the inauguration of guided tours at the Etruscan necropolis of Ara del Tufo in Tuscania, Italy. There he presented a series of musical experiments born of the union between ethnic instruments and sounds obtained from everyday objects. Since September 2001 he has taught guitar at the “Antico Poggio” Academy in Tarquinia. During 2001 and 2002 he collaborated with the actor-director Pino Quartullo, Artistic Director of the “Traiano Theatre” of Civitavecchia, to create the music for “Hello Denise”, “Together”, and “Gl’Innamorati” (“The Lovers”) of Goldoni. In 2002 he was selected to direct the Schola Cantorum (church choir) of “SS. Giovanni e Leonardo” in Tarquinia. He teaches classical and electric guitar, electric bass, music theory, and solfeggio at: - “Musicarmonia” music school in Civitavecchia (RM) - “Giuseppe Verdi” Municipal School in Tolfa (RM) - Musical Workshop of the “Semi di Pace” association in Tarquinia (VT) - “Antonio Vivaldi” Municipal School in Marta (VT)
